June Garden Tour

Why color and texture are important in the garden

I have spent almost every free minute in the flower beds for the past 2 months and it has given me such a perspective on how varying color and texture really matter in the garden.

So, I'm hoping these pictures will help and also show you some of the progress I have made this season so far.

Purple, purple or red in the garden is a critical color to me. It strikes such a contrast with the other colors and it also gives a weightiness that is needed.

The purple smoke bush that I am training into tree form has bloomed. I planted this Fall of 2017 and this is the first blooming season for me. I am loving it.

My peony blooms are getting huge and I made a mental note to buy a stake for this one next year.

I added another metal art piece in the flower bed. Greg mounted an orb to some leftover tubing he had laying around. I have to have the hardscapes in my flower beds. They just add a sophistication or whimsy, don't ya think?

If you look closely, you'll notice I added some purple cabbage throughout my flower beds this year. It is already helping with filling in bare spots and the different texture is wonderful and they are still babies.

Just wait til they get big!

Three of the clay pots on the chandelier cracked with the winter we had so I had to find replacements. I found some progresso soup cans that were the perfect size and also only .59 cents a can.

Score! I bought two extra just in case one goes missing, that way I don't have to replace every single one.

Again.

I still need to plant up the old lantern, but I am looking for just the right plant, and it's eluding me so far.

Behind the lantern you'll notice a new addition. I found a Tiger Eye Sumac, which I hear may be slightly invasive, so I'll keep an eye on it and see how it does. I also planted two yellow Virginia creepers in front for some much needed winter interest that's yellow and just lights up this dark spot.

The ornamental onions are getting ready to bloom and I cannot wait. They seem to have double in size since last year and I hope I have double the blooms too!

I hope you enjoyed the tour and stay tuned for more. I am outside every waking minute and trying to take as many videos and pictures as I can!
