Front Porch

Decorating the front porch with rustic style that's not only classic and easy, but it's gorgeous and timeless too.

If I can toot my own horn.

I have some gorgeous Boston ferns and hellebore's that seriously make this porch shine. I could have cobwebs all over and I don't think I'd notice them if the flowers were in bloom like now.

I have no clue where the hellebore's are going to get planted in a week or so, but I think that's part of the fun of gardening isn't it?

You will notice since we were staying close to home these days, I managed to get some help staining the front column and steps a dark color. It's darker then I wanted, but I am learning to like it.

It's definitely striking, it was a lot darker a week ago believe me!

Looking at these pictures I am shocked to see that the only things I bought for this porch are plants.

The ferns were on clearance from a local big box store because they got zapped from frost. I brought them home, trimmed the outside and replanted them. You'd never know they were almost killed.

We have maybe 2 or 3 more nights the next two weeks that are going to hit high 30's but after that we might be in the clear to plant some serious color.

And by that I mean I have about 15 dahlias that I started indoors and they are already hitting the 2 foot height, so they need some fertilizer and some heat real quick.

Plus I am sick of trying to harden them off which is new to me. So cross your fingers I don't shock them with too much sun or too much heat.

The chandelier is rusting up nicely and I managed to plant some vinca in it. I may have to cover to protect it, but we'll see.

I hope this finds you happy and healthy and ready to get outside!

Have a great day

What a lovely and inviting porch, Christine. I could imagine myself curled up on one of those rockers with a book or having a good chat and a cuppa (or glass of wine!) with a friend. It's really beautiful. I love the colors and the blooms are fabulous!

Christine, love the porch! The plants are gorgeous, and I like the striking black. I think black is the best accent, anywhere!
