Warming up the Dining Room

Warming up a space in winter time without spending a ton of money.

During Winter time, especially after holiday decorations have been taken down, the lack of greenery and warmth seems to disappear. The need for cozy blankets, plush socks and a general feeling of warmth is an urgent need in my home.

If you live in the southern half of the United states or a warmer balmy climate you may want to skip this post. It's heavy on the "I'm gearing up to battle cold snowy weather" blues. I am actually a southern freak of nature. I grew up in South Florida but love living in a northern climate. Most of the time. Truth be told, come March I am ready for warmer temperatures and open toed shoes.

I feel that most people already know in their heart how to make their space feel more cozy and welcoming. It's adding touches that say come sit on me, or wrap up in me and stay inside. Your favorite blanket, some hysterical adult footie pajamas. Whatever makes your feet warm and your heart melt should just be done automatically.

For me it's a feeling more then a specific blanket or clothes. It's the glow of a candle or using dimmers on lights in a room.

The warm brown texture of my dining table all lit up with candles.

Some people would be surprised to know that if the sun were to hit this table, it's almost all white.

White dishes, napkins candles and table runner. Yet to me, it's a warm feeling that I love and want to share.

I tried to wait for some sunlight but it's winter time here in Indiana. The sun usually is pretty scarce until May.  So I have to make my own light.

The soft plush fur table runner is one of those fabrics you have to touch when you sit down next to it. You just can't help yourself.

Wood texture in any room regardless of the color can always be deemed cozy, no matter where you live or what the season is. If you'd like to cozy up a bedroom or living room other tips would be to use more pillows, or some greenery. A silk or live plant can add huge impact and some warmth to a space of any size.

I think it's all about balance, what do you think?
