Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas
Decorating for the holidays always looks so easy when others do it doesn't it? At least that is the way I feel. They can just place an ornament anywhere on the tree and walk away. To some extent, I can too but more often then not, I am constantly tweaking and hardly ever satisfied with my tree the first day.
Sometimes even the 2nd or 3rd day too!
If there is a college course on how to just walk away and leave it, please tell me. Because I can drive myself and Greg crazy trying to figure out the perfect spot. How do people decorate a tree in 4 hours? I decorated 4 trees and it took me 2 weeks. Literally! Now, to be fair to myself, the house is done as well. I get ideas on where to place garlands, wreaths, centerpieces and tablescapes too but I feel like it should only take me 3 days at the most.
Maybe I am being too hard on myself or maybe I am making thoughtful decisions?
This year my colors are black, brown, purple, clear and gold. The other difference in this years colors is I tried to decorate all my trees with the same color scheme. I succeeded on 3 trees. I ran out of ornaments, LOL
The master bedroom is a gorgeous red and black tree that I love. That room will hopefully be debuted on the blog soon as well as the dining room.
The brown leather pillows I got off of Amazon, the purple ones I found locally. Most of the decor I have had for a while. Each year I collect a little more. This year has to be a record breaker for me. I have not bought bags and bags of ornaments. My collection must be getting to just the right size. Now to be honest I did spend a few hundred on outdoor lights. Greg had one request to the decor and it was more color this year outside.
I put brown rattan balls, purple and brown feathers, plus rope from the local craft store on my tree to casual or rustic it up. I love adding rustic touches next to the glitz of a glass ornament. I hung our stockings on a birch branch that Greg and I acquired form a beach in South Florida on our first date.
I still remember that day very well. I think the name of the beach is John Carlsons Preserve and the branch was 7 foot long and I had visions of it being a curtain rod. That was September 1998....
The metal tray above is actually the boot tray found at JoAnne Fabrics. I added battery operated twinkle lights, a few thrift store items I have collected over the years and 2 black ceramic target trees found in the dollar spot section.
The brown leather Noel sign was found this year at Walmart and matched my pillows like I planned it on purpose.
I am loving the use of purple this year, it is striking just the right balance for me that's not too feminine. If you've been following me for any length of time, you know I am not a all mirror and sparkle girl. I need to redneck things up a bit to keep me humble.
The skinny tree was a Walmart buy last year. I had plans to buy another, but apparently the $99 I paid last year was not enough for covid prices and the new price they wanted for the same darn tree was just under 200. I said no thank you! I'll wait until you come to your senses walmart. SMH
I appreciate you stopping by and hope you come back to see more decor unveiled as I get pictures and videos taken. If you would like to see a video of this room, I uploaded it to YouTube. You can watch here, it's free!
Happy Holidays!

Well, I had good intentions 12 hrs ago but my sister arrived to help me this morning load some estate sale furniture. Better late than never....
Ohmygod, Christine. This is totally fabulous and it does NOT look the least bit redneck. Rustic and refined? Totally! You have really great design skills. Love that leather sign and pillows, and the purple!!
I get how long it takes to do the tree. I am the same way (ribbon, ornaments, bead garland), but this year I almost didn't use any ornaments at all. In the end I went with a very light hand, o ly using some ornaments.
The outside is a to completely different animal! Did you have some decent weather to work out there? That's tough when it's cold.
Looking forward to seeing the outside!
Happy December!
Yikes! That's one serious price hike!
Your tree is gorgeous. Redneck? I think not. It's very elegant and your home looks lovely. I had to laugh at your tweaking -- I think I'm doing it till two days before I take it down! It seems there is always something to add or move to get a different light! I'm glad I'm not alone!
